Profile

Dr. Dan Moalusi is a finance professional with extensive consulting and academic experience. As a consultant, Dr. Moalusi has held positions with two big four accounting firms primarily in the United States, working in the New York City, Atlanta, Wisconsin and Chicago markets.

Over the years, Dr. Moalusi has been involved in capacity building engagements on transfer pricing matters, with various multinational clients, as well as with government agencies around the globe. He was intimately involved in designing the curriculum that was subsequently delivered to the transfer pricing agents for the Chinese tax authority, the SAT, at the time when China was introducing transfer pricing regulations. His keen interest in teaching and transfer pricing has been highly recognized, as he was engaged on several occasions within the firm to design and teach technical courses on various topics on transfer pricing group. Topics taught include financial statement analysis for transfer pricing specialists, application of transfer pricing methods, global transfer pricing developments, and transfer pricing audit techniques, among others.

He began his career in transfer pricing with PwC in New York City as a Transfer Pricing economist. Dr. Moalusi provides transfer pricing services to clients in several industries including financial services, manufacturing, media and entertainment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology, automotive and consumer goods. His clients regard him as a trusted advisor, assisting clients with mergers and acquisitions, business restructuring, value chain transformation, and tax audits with various tax authorities. Dr. Moalusi’s engagements have also included transfer pricing documentation for compliance purposes – including intercompany IP/Royalty transactions, tangible goods transactions, and intercompany services transactions. He also engaged in significant amount of work on documentation for tax planning purposes, assisting clients determine the appropriate intercompany pricing policies in order to comply with regulations for various jurisdictions globally. Other work performed for clients include IP valuation modeling, advance pricing arrangements, and audit defense services.

In 2014, Dr. Moalusi was recruited by Johnson Controls, Inc., (“JCI”), a fortune 500 company based in Milwaukee, WI to become an in-house Director of Transfer Pricing and Valuations. JCI was going through a transformation at this time and needed an expert in the areas of valuations and transfer pricing. At JCI, he worked closely with the planning and the transactions divisions within corporate tax assisting with valuations, in business restructuring, as well as in divestitures and acquisitions. While at JCI Dr. Moalusi engaged in mergers and acquisitions transactions planning activities for the company, with total transactions worth approximately $40 billion over a period of 3 and half years. He also provided internal expertise to the company on audit inquiries from tax authorities from various jurisdictions including countries in the Americas: Canada, USA, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, among others; EMEA: United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Romania, Czech Republic; South Africa; and Asia-Pacific: South Korea, Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Australia. Dr. Moalusi interacted extensively with tax authorities within these countries, and as such garnered extensive knowledge of Transfer Pricing requirements and audit procedures in these countries. This experience allowed the company to reduce audit fees while also significantly increasing the company’s tax audit success globally.

Currently Dr. Moalusi is the head of transfer pricing at Deloitte Tax LLP for the Wisconsin market, based on Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Moalusi is an adjunct professor of economics and finance with University of Northwestern St Paul (UNWSP) based in St. Paul, Minnesota. At UNWSP Dr. Moalusi teaches causes in economics and finance primarily to undergraduate and adult learners. He was engaged by the university to redesign the curriculum of the undergraduate microeconomics and macroeconomics courses. He has also been an Assistant professor in the School of Business and Economics at West Virginia University.

He sits on the board of directors of two independent companies, Fresh and Safe, which is a Milwaukee based food services company. Fresh and Safe serves a wide market base including schools, and other organizations by providing quality meals at affordable prices in the Milwaukee area. Additionally he sits on the board of directors for Crescent Peak, a manufacturer based in Philadelphia, PA. He is also a director at an Atlanta based, DEM Consulting, Inc.

Dr. Moalusi holds a Doctorate Degree in Financial Economics from Fordham University, New York, NY; a Master’s Degree in Financial Economics from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio; and BA in Economics from University of Botswana, Gaborone, Botswana.
